Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance.

Ivor Callely

Question:

80 Mr. Calley asked the Minister for Health the total number of people in receipt of disabled person's maintenance allowance; the yearly costs involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16892/95]

Limerick East): At 31 December 1994, 30,693 people were receiving disabled person's maintenance allowance, DPMA, and the total expenditure on the disabled person's maintenance allowance scheme in 1994 was £95,918,052.

As the Deputy may be aware, the disabled person's maintenance allowance scheme is in the process of being transferred to the Department of Social Welfare. Responsibility for the payment of disabled person's maintenance allowance transferred to the Department of Social Welfare on 1 August 1995, and it is expected that responsibility for the administration of disabled person's maintenance allowance will transfer in early 1996.
