Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Vehicle Bull Bars.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

99 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to official Department of Transport research in the United Kingdom which shows that horrific injuries can be caused in accidents by bull bars, attached in particular to four wheel drive vehicles; if he will make an order prohibiting their use. [16666/95]

I am aware of research which has been, and continues to be, conducted in the United Kingdom in this area.

As regards the introduction of controls in relation to the fitting of bull bars to vehicles, I refer to the reply to Question No. 121 of 22 March 1995. The review by the European Commission, referred to in that reply, has yet to be completed.
