Ivor Callely

Question:

92 Mr. Calley asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the progress, if any, being made in relation to the location of a national convention centre; the considerations that have been taken into account; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16931/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 89 and 92 together.

In reply to a question in the House on 5 October last, I set out four stages for identifying the most suitable proposal for the development of a national convention centre in Dublin. Following the first of these stages, a public invitation for expressions of interest, preliminary applications from consortia to develop a national convention centre with financial assistance from the operational programme for tourism 1994-99, are currently being examined within Bord Fáilte. This process is due to be completed in time to allow me to be in a position to report to Government by mid-December with a short-list of candidates who will be invited to proceed to the next stage of the process and submit full design documents with financial and operational plans based on a detailed brief.
