Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - Animal Disease Levies.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

80 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the changes, if any, he proposes to make in animal disease levies; the new rate of levy he proposes to impose on each gallon of milk and each steer in the event of such changes; the plans, if any, he has to introduce charges to farmers for TB testing of cattle; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17054/95]

I am currently engaged in drawing up revised arrangements for the disease eradication schemes which I envisage will lead to a reduction in disease levies. Pending finalisation of these arrangements, which could involve some restructuring of the financing of the schemes, it is not possible to say the extent to which the rate of the disease levies could be reduced.
