Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - Promotion of Telemarketing.

Robert Molloy

Question:

169 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the steps, if any, being taken to facilitate and promote telemarketing throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17448/95]

The importance of telemarketing to Ireland was first recognised in 1992 when a target to create 2,000 jobs in this sector, between 1993 and 1997, was set.

To date, more than 20 telemarketing operations have been established in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Dundalk and Wicklow employing over 1,300 people.

We are well on the way to achieving the initial target of 2,000 jobs and this could well be exceeded. Indeed, I am anxious to ensure that Ireland maximises the job potential from telemarketing and that we continue to spread the operations as widely as possible throughout the country.
