Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - Accessible Transport Facilities and Services.

Mary Wallace

Question:

98 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the number of meetings he has held with representatives of people with disabilities in relation to the establishment of the Dublin Transport Office; the plans, if any, he has to amend Statutory Instrument 289 of 1995 in order to establish the active promotion of accessible transport facilities and services as a specific role of the office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17182/95]

The primary function assigned to the Dublin Transportation Office is to co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of the integrated transportation strategy recommended in the final report of the Dublin Transportation Initiative. The provision of facilities for people with disabilities is an important element of that strategy. The development of the strategy was assisted by a consultative panel and a special working group of DTI, both of which included members of organisations representing people with disabilities. I intend that such organisations will also be represented on the statutory consultative panel which will be established shortly as part of the arrangements to oversee implementation of the strategy.
