Vol. 458 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Waste Directives.

David Andrews

Question:

57 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for the Environment the impact, if any, EU directives have on the export and import of waste products. [17393/95]

All exports and imports of waste by EU member states, with the exception of radioactive wastes covered by EURATOM arrangements and limited other wastes, are covered by Council Regulation (EEC) No. 259/93 of 1 February 1993 on the supervision and control of shipments of waste within, into and out of the European Community. The transposition of this Regulation in Ireland is supported by the European Communities (Transfrontier Shipment of Waste) Regulations, 1994.
