Vol. 458 No. 6

Written Answers. - Boating Regulations.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

89 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine if speed limits could be provided at Sheephaven Bay for jet skis and speed boats and markers provided to limit areas reserved for bathers; if jet skis and speed boats could be prohibited within 20 metres of the beach; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17503/95]

The Merchant Shipping (Jet Skis and Fast Power Boats) Regulations, 1992 enable local authorities, regional fisheries boards, harbour authorities and the Commissioners of Public Works to make proposals to the Minister to designate areas as being unsuitable. In the interests of safety of pleasure craft and their occupants, for the operation of jet skis and fast power boats. I understand that the Department has received no such proposals in respect of Sheephaven Bay. On receipt of any proposals, they will be examined having regard to the above regulations.
