Vol. 459 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway Land Vesting.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

108 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when vesting of land (details supplied) at Maumeen, Lettermore, County Galway, will be completed. [17934/95]

A scheme for the disposal of the remnants of the Joyce and Turner Estate, CDB 9965, was prepared in 1993. Work on the scheme was temporarily delayed following the deployment in 1993 of staff from Lands Services Division of my Department to operate the area aid, general scheme.

As I outlined in my reply to another question from the Deputy (No. 159 of 8 November 1995), staff were recently redeployed to Lands Services Division. This has enabled the scheme which had been prepared in 1993 to be re-examined. An investigation with the Land Registry Office of the lands proposed for resale was carried out. This investigation showed that a number of the holdings included in the scheme have since been registered. As a result, it is now necessary to prepare a revised scheme, which will exclude those lands which were registered since the original scheme was prepared. All the relevant documents have been referred back to the local inspectorate so that they can commence work on a new scheme without delay. The new scheme will be completed as soon as possible.
