Written Answers. - Part-Time Teacher-Lecture Data.

Tony Gregory

Question:

139 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the number of part-time teachers/lecturers employed by each regional technical college and the Dublin Institute of Technology in the academic year 1994/1995; the percentage which taught less than eight hours per week in each college in this period; the percentage of the lecturing/teaching which was carried out by part-time, excluding eligible part-time, staff in each college in this period; the percentage of lecturing/teaching which was carried out by whole-time staff as extra work for which they were paid additional salary in the same year; and if she has satisfied herself that the terms of the Regular Part-Time Employees Act, 1991, are being fully implemented by the regional technical college/DIT sector, in particular as to whether the staff concerned have written terms and conditions as required by the Act. [18188/95]

Information on the number of part-time teachers-lecturers employed in the regional technical college-DIT sector and the percentage who taught less than eight hours per week is not available in my Department.

However, figures for total teaching hours, total part-time hours and part-time hours as a percentage of total teaching hours are given in the following table.

Details of the percentage of lecturing-teaching which is carried out by whole-time staff as extra work for which they are paid additional salary are not available in my Department.

As statutory bodies, the regional technical colleges and the Dublin Institute of Technology are responsible for compliance with employment legislation in their areas.
