Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine if he will review the situation of the Marita which belongs to a person (details supplied) in County Louth in view of his recent statement that there may be a need to review the safety on ocean-going trawlers of a certain age; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the circumstances surrounding the purchase and subsequent operation of the MFV Marita are currently the subject of correspondence between BIM and the owner. It would be inappropriate for me to comment on the specifics of the case. I can confirm that I have decided to carry out a comprehensive review of fishing vessel safety generally. This will be taken forward in consultation with the fishing industry and other relevant interests.
