Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prohibition of Vehicles on Donegal Beach.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

186 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Marine if he has received an application from Donegal County Council for authority to prohibit motorcycles, beach buggies and other such vehicles from Lisfarnon, Fahan and other Donegal beaches; and if he will give authority to Donegal County Council to act forthwith in the interest of conserving the natural environments of the foreshore and the safety of those who use it. [18179/95]

Donegal County Council has applied to the Department of the Marine for orders prohibiting the disturbance of beach material by motorcycles, beach buggies and such like vehicles at the beaches of Carrickfin and Lisfannon. The applications were published last July in local newspapers in accordance with the Foreshore Acts. No objections to the making of the proposed orders were received and the Department is consulting the Office of the Attorney General with a view to settling the terms of the draft orders.
