In March this year, my Department issued guidelines to health boards on family planning policy. The guidelines outlined the need for the development of comprehensive family planning services in each health board area. This would also include the provision of services for disadvantaged and-or at risk groups and persons with special needs. Health boards have been asked to establish, in consultation with the groups involved, the most appropriate means of providing family planning services to ensure that they are user friendly, effective in achieving their objective and, where appropriate, that advice and information is furnished in a manner which is easily understood by the recipient.
If the Deputy is aware of a particular case of the nature referred to in the question, perhaps he would communicate the details to me and I will ask the relevant health board to provide a report to the Deputy.
