Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telecom Éireann Strategic Alliance.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

166 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when the memorandum of information outlining the terms of the strategic alliance concerning Telecom Éireann will issue; when the successful alliance will be in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18436/95]

The process of selecting a strategic partner for Telecom Éireann is now well under way. The first step in the alliance process was taken with the release of the mandate for strategic alliance negotiations which was approved by the Government in July of this year.

A top class consortium of consultants headed by Morgan Stanley has since been appointed to advise the Shareholder. These consultants, in conjunction with the Shareholders and Telecom Éireann, are currently compiling the information memorandum and it is expected that this document will issue in the very near future.

Overall the process could take about nine months to complete and it is envisaged that the successful partner will have been identified by the middle of next year.
