Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cork Courthouse Refurbishment.

Peter Barry

Question:

116 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice if plans have been finalised for the upgrading and refurbishment of the courthouse at Washington Street, Cork; the extent of the work involved; the timescale envisaged; the costs involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18825/95]

The refurbishment of the Courthouse in Washington Street, Cork is being undertaken in two phases. Phase one which relates mainly to exterior works is currently out to tender, and it is planned that actual work will commence early in 1996 and take 12 to 15 months to complete.

Phase two which includes major internal refurbishment is at the initial planning stage. It is anticipated that the planning stage will take approximately nine months with actual works commencing on this phase early in 1997.

At this stage it is not possible to quantify the cost of the projects other than to say they will be substantial.
