Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Truancy.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

29 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education her response to the findings and reports on school truancy; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18195/95]

I established the Task Force on Truancy in February 1995

—To examine the submissions received from interested parties in response to the report on truancy issued by the Department of Education in April 1994 and

—to consider and make recommendations as to future action required to address the problem of truancy at first and second level.

Submissions have been received by the Task Force from over thirty individuals and groups.

The Deputy will appreciate that the issues involved are indeed complex ones which require detailed consideration. The work of the task force has been continuing steadily since its inception. It is now at an advanced stage.

I am monitoring progress on a continuing basis and assure the Deputy that all the issues involved are receiving due consideration.
