Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cultural Institutions Management.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

84 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the current status of the promised legislation to provide for a statutory independent board of management for the National Museum, the National Library and other cultural institutions. [19032/95]

The proposed National Cultural Institutions, Indemnities and Related Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 1995 which will, amongst other things, establish autonomous boards to run the National Museum and the National Library, was approved in principle by the Government in July of this year. The approved proposals are with the parliamentary draftsman and I would hope to be in a position to have the Bill published in the earlier part of next year.
