Question:

190 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to appoint additional anaesthesia personnel within the Southern Health Board area. [1265/96]

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 184 and 190 together.

The management of health services, including the employment of staff, is a matter, in the first instance, for each health agency.

The Department approved the filling of the post of professor of anaesthesiaintensive care medicine at Cork University Hospital on 7 February 1994 and the post was cleared by Comhairle na nOspidéal. The Local Appointments Commission hopes to issue its recommendation for appointment in the very near future.
A post of anaesthetist at Cork University Hospital was advertised by the Local Appointments Commission in October 1995 and interviews will be held at the end of January 1996.
A post of registrar in anaesthesia in the Southern Health Board was also approved in January 1995.
