Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Transport for Kilkenny Student.

Liam Aylward

Question:

359 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the approval of an application to have a school bus route extended to collect a student (details supplied) in County Kilkenny at his home in view of the medical evidence submitted in respect of this student. [1143/96]

It would not be open to my Department to extend the service to accommodate the student to whom the Deputy refers, on the basis of the medical evidence submitted. The pupil in question resides one mile from the existing pick-up point, and is considered to have a good level of service in the context of the general operation of the scheme. Furthermore, the extension of the service would involve substantial extra cost. However, if more detailed medical evidence is furnished to my Department, the matter may be referred to the medical adviser, and the case re-examined.
