Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

Joe Costello

Question:

608 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to give a service pension to the surviving members of Fianna Éireann who were in effect junior members of the Old IRA; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1271/96]

The Military Service Pensions Acts made provision for the award of service pensions to persons who rendered active service in certain organisations, including Fianna Éireann, during the War of Independence.

The time limit for the acceptance of applications for pensions under the Military Service Pensions Acts has long since passed and the whole process by which applications were investigated was wound up as far back as 1958.
