Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

144 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health whether speech therapy facilities at a special school (details supplied) in Dublin are available free of charge. [19238/95]

There is no charge to individual clients in respect of speech therapy services provided either directly by a health board or by a voluntary agency on behalf of a health board.

A number of children attending the school in question are receiving speech therapy services. The level of service available to the school is under review by the Eastern Health Board.

The Deputy may wish to note that in the last three years, boards have allocated £695,000 to the development of speech and language therapy services, including £300,000 in 1995. This additional funding has allowed the recruitment of 28 speech and language therapists as well as the purchase of additional speech and language therapy equipment.
