37 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the efforts, if any, that are being made by his Department to ensure that the trade and tourism sectors benefit from the upcoming EU structural funding midterm review. [1446/96]

My Department has overall responsibility for implementation of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99 and for the marketing sub-programme of the Operational Programme for Industry 1994-99.

Progress under these two programmes is being carefully monitored by my Department in anticipation of the mid-term reviews with a view to ensuring that funding is maintained at the level already projected to the end of the programme period. The purpose of these reviews is to measure the extent to which the objectives pursued are being attained, explain any discrepancies and forecast the results of the operations.
