David Andrews

Question:

84 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the current position in terms of expenditure in the operational programme for tourism. [1568/96]

Total expenditure under the operational programme for tourism 1994-1999, up to the end of September 1995, the latest date for which figures are available, was £78.43 million, of which £45.5 million was provided by the EU.

David Andrews

Question:

85 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the nature of the relationship between his Department and the regional tourism organisations. [1570/96]

As I indicated in reply to a similar question from Deputy Brennan on 15 November 1995, the regional tourism organisations were initially established by Bord Fáilte in 1963 under section 5 of the Tourist Traffic Act, 1952. they are structured as private companies registered under the Companies Acts, limited by guarantee with memoranda and articles of association which contain inter alia, stipulations relating to their management, administration and general business affairs. In accordance with their memoranda and articles, regional tourism organisations are accountable to, and obliged to operate in accordance with the policies and directions of Bord Fáilte.
