Vol. 460 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Price Difference in Animal Feeds.

James Leonard

Question:

92 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the approximate difference per tonne in feed price between the United Kingdom and Ireland for compound feeds for cattle, poultry and pig. [1497/96]

Adequate information is not readily available to indicate the difference in compound feed costs between Ireland and the UK. Objective comparisons of compound feed costs are difficult to make, especially because of differences in compositional and nutrient content. Other factors such as discount arrangements also make comparisons difficult.

The question of comparative feed costs for poultry is being addressed in a report on the implementation of the development strategy for the poultry processing sector by the Poultrymeat Forum which I set up in January 1995. This report is expected to be available shortly.
