93 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason 25 people employed in temporary contracts with his Department were made redundant on 31 December 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1520/96]
A total of 59 temporary clerical assistants were initially employed under temporary contracts in my Department's local offices from April 1994 to the end of December 1995 to deal with the additional work which had arisen in 1994 and 1995 under the various livestock schemes and related matters.
As permanent replacement staff had been appointed to replace all the temporary staff, their temporary contracts were not renewed.
