Question:166 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice when a gunsmith will examine a gun belonging to a person (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3169/96]
Written Answers. - Examination of Gun.
The firearm referred to was surrendered to the Garda in accordance with the Firarms (Temporary Custody) Order, 1972 (S.I. No. 187 of 1972) and was transferred for storage to the ordnance stores, Collins Barracks, Cork. The gun was released to the Garda on 21 August 1995 and was given on the same date to the person referred to in the question.
I am making inquiries in relation to the condition of the weapon when surrendered, the condition under which it was stored, and its present condition. When these inquiries have been completed I will communicate with the Deputy.
