Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Employment of Nurses by Health Boards.

Tony Gregory

Question:

86 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health whether health boards contract private nursing agencies to stay with homeless children in overnight accommodation; and if so, the criteria, namely qualifications, experience and background, of any personnel so employed. [3107/96]

In exceptional circumstances the Eastern Health Board contracts private nursing agencies to provide nurses to stay with children overnight. All nurses so employed are registered with An Bord Altranais. Their qualifications, experience and background are in general, psychiatric or mental handicap nursing. The board acquires Garda clearance for such nurses prior to their engagement.
