Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Gun Day Allocations.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

156 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if his attention has been drawn to practices such as exchanging clients or other methods by which tourist shoot promoters exceed their gunday allocation; the action, if any, he is taking to end such practices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3562/96]

I am not aware of the practice of exchanging clients or other methods by which shoot operators may exceed their gunday allocation. Shooting rights are assessed for gunday carrying capacity to ensure that lands are not overshot and hunting licences are issued by reference to this assessment. When the shotgun certificates/hunting licences are issued the appropriate number of gundays are deduced from that particular shoot operator's overall allocation. In cases where hunters intend to shoot in two different locations gundays are deduced pro rata from the promoters involved.
