Vol. 461 No. 7

Written Answers. - Guidance and Counselling.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

233 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Education when she intends to advance the proposals made by the National Centre for Guidance in Education regarding formulating an action plan for guidance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3881/96]

The National Centre for Guidance in Education has recently completed a report entitled Guidelines for the Practice of Guidance and Counselling in Schools, which I have welcomed. Arrangements are being made for its distribution to schools.

One of its recommendations is that an action plan for guidance in education be developed. At present, I am considering the composition of a joint working party, representative of the Department and the National Centre for Guidance in Education, to advance this recommendation.
