Question:135 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Health what moneys, if any, will be paid to each health board in 1996 from his Department's development fund; the priority rating which has been given to each request by the respective health boards for funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3575/96]
Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 134 and 135 together. The information regarding the allocation of funds for the development of services is contained in the following table. The funding was provided for the further development of a wide range of services including, child care, services for the physically disabled, services for those with a mental handicap, services for the elderly, family planning and pregnancy counselling services, acute hospitals, the waiting list initiatives, ambulance services, phychiatric services, services for those with AIDS/HIV, dental services, nurse training and new community care structures.
The funding for developments is provided in accordance with the priorities set out in the Government programme, A Government of Renewal and the action plan contained in the Health Strategy, Shaping a Healthier Future. My Department is in regular contact with the boards and other health agencies regarding critical pressures within the services generally and service needs in the areas I have just outlined. The additional funds are allocated on the basis of these identified needs, in line with the principles contained in the health strategy, taking into account the level of resources available.
