Vol. 461 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fingal (Dublin) Arts Centre.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

6 Mr. Sargent asked the Taoiseach the progress, if any, being made with the application for capital grant assistance of £20,000 towards seating, stage curtains and heating on behalf of Saint Maur's Trust Limited, Fingal Arts Centre, County Dublin submitted in December, 1995 through Fingal County Council arts officer. [3511/96]

The application, with others, is under active consideration and will be adjudicated upon in the near future.

Is the Minister of State aware of the excellent work that has been done by St. Maur's Trust in the restoration of the old church in Rush in north County Dublin which has now been designated as the Fingal arts centre? It is essential to have an early decision on the trust's application which has been submitted by Fingal County Council. This would allow the trust to continue the work it has commenced and to advance and provide the type of centre it has in mind.

I assure the Deputy there will be an early decision on the matter.

When the Minister of State says "early", does he mean within a week, two weeks, a month or two months? What is "early"? When will we have the decision? I see that the Minister for Justice, who cannot even handle justice, now wants to brief the Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach who cannot handle this question.

A decision will be made by the end of March.
