Trevor Sargent

Question:

55 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice the number of men and women prosecuted for prostitution under the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 1993. [3891/96]

As I informed the Deputy on 9 November 1995, in my answer to a question tabled by him, I have been informed by the Garda authorities that 12 men and 116 women were prosecuted for various offences under the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 1993 between 7 July 1993, the date on which it came into operation, and 31 December 1994. The offences in question include a range of offences relating to the activity of prostitution.

Figures for the number of persons prosecuted in 1995 under the Act are not yet available.
