Vol. 462 No. 1

Written Answers. - Youth Facilities.

Tony Gregory

Question:

91 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she will request the Garda Síochána to initiate a youth diversion project in the O'Devanney Gardens area of Dublin 7 where there are few, if any, youth facilities. [4085/96]

The Garda are already heavily involved with the residents of the area, and other agencies working in the area, to develop and improve the amenities available for the young people living there. It may be that a more formal project for the area will emerge from the combined efforts of all involved and in that event the Garda will play their full part on such a project.

In the meantime, they will continue to be actively involved with the newly formed residents association, in organising, for example, summer projects and soccer tournaments for the young people of the area.
