Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Amendment of Data Protection Act.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

190 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice if she will amend the Data Protection Act in order that public representatives who hold information on computer for and on behalf of their constituents be exempt from the registration fee. [4247/96]

I refer the Deputy to my response to Question No. 17 on 14 March 1995, in which I indicated that I was open to the suggestion that the fees for persons with only a very small number of employees be reduced. In the very near future I hope to bring into effect new regulations which will provide for a significantly reduced registration fee for applicants with five or less persons in their employment.
