195 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí, sergeants and inspectors in the Garda districts of Mullingar and Athlone, County Westmeath and Granard, County Longford on 1 January for each of the years 1980 to 1996. [4370/96]
I propose to provide the information sought as at 31 December for each year from 1979 as the figures for 1 January are not readily available. I am informed by the Garda authorities that computerised records are not available for district strengths prior to 1992. Accordingly, I propose to provide the information sought on a divisional basis which includes all districts in the Longford-Westmeath division for those years. This is set out in Table A. The information sought for the years 1992 to 1996 is set out by district in Table B.
