Vol. 462 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cable Television.

Noel Ahern

Question:

137 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the responsibility he has for Cablelink TV Ireland; the current owners of that company; his views on whether Cablelink should be involved in production of a joint leaflet with Sky Sports in view of Sky Sports' attempts to corner the TV sports market. [4668/96]

Cablelink Ltd., in which RTE also holds a minority interest, is a subsidiary of Telecom Éireann and holds licences from my Department for the provision of both cable and MMDS TV services. However, while Cablelink must comply with the terms and conditions contained in its licences, I have no statutory function with regard to its day to day operations.
