Vol. 462 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marriage Procedures.

Mary Harney

Question:

53 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself that the proper procedures were carried out and the legal requirements met in relation to a marriage (details supplied); whether a complaint has been lodged with his Department regarding the marriage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4570/96]

Limerick East): The administration of the civil registration system is a matter for the Registrar-General of births, deaths and marriages and for local registrars who operate under his general direction.

I understand from the Registrar-General that he investigated the circumstances of this marriage and that he is satisfied that all necessary legal formalities including the prescribed preliminaries to the marriage have been complied with and that the marriage was appropriately registered in accordance with the Marriage Acts.

A number of inquiries were made of the General Register Office concerning the circumstances in which this marriage was celebrated and the position was fully explained to all parties involved.
