Question:

54 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Health the cost per annum of the salaries and associated expenses of the administrative staff in University College Hospital, Galway for each of the years from 1991 to 1995. [4571/96]

Limerick East): University College Hospital is part of a unit of management established in 1994 which also includes Merlin Park Regional Hospital, Galway, Orthodontic Services, and Clifden District Hospital.

Staff responsible for the administration and management of the unit of management are based at University College Hospital, Galway and their salaries are charged to that hospital, although they are also responsible for, and provide services to, other institutions in the unit.

The following are the salaries and associated costs of the group of staff charged to University College Hospital Galway:

It should be noted that these costs include salaries of all administrative grades such as:
— Medical Secretaries to Consultant Medical Staff
— Clinical Support
Clerical/Secretarial Staff
(Laboratories, X-Ray, Medical Records etc.)
— In-Patient, Out-Patient
Department and Accident and Emergency Admissions Staff
— Stores Staff
— Finance Staff
— Personnel Staff
Prior to 1994, senior management was part of, and charged to, the board's central services. From 1994, management has been progressively decentralised with the creation of the unit of management referred to above.
Non-recurring costs associated with the introduction of computerised systems in various hospital departments are included in the 1994 and 1995 figures.
