Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Voting Provisions.

Máirín Quill

Question:

145 Miss Quill asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to make special voting provisions for Irish citizens currently operating as intercontinental lorry drivers out of this country to ensure they are not disenfranchised on polling days. [5056/96]

The Electoral Bill, 1994 proposes to provide special voting arrangements for electors who, by reason of the circumstances of their occupation, are likely to be unable to attend their polling station on polling day. The Bill has been given a second reading in the Dáil and I expect that it will be possible for the Dáil Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs to deal with the Committee Stage before too long.
