Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Commemorative Postage Stamp.

Joe Walsh

Question:

31 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the appropriate steps, if any, he will take to have a commemorative postage stamp issued in 1996 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the French Expedition to Bantry Bay in 1796; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3039/96]

The 1996 stamp programme has now been finalised. A stamp to commemorate the bicentenary of the French Armada at Bantry Bay in 1796 was considered but was not recommended for inclusion in the programme. As the number of subjects put forward for consideration greatly exceeded the number which could be accommodated in the 1996 stamp programme it was inevitable that some individuals or groups who wished to see a particular subject included were disappointed.
