Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Adelphi Nursing Home, Dublin.

Tony Gregory

Question:

106 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the short and long-term usage of the Adelphi Nursing Home, North Circular Road, Dublin 7, recently acquired by the Eastern Health Board; and the costs involved. [5011/96]

Limerick East): Adelphi House has been the property of the Eastern Health Board for approximately 20 years. Since its acquisition, it has been used as a 16-place community residence within the mental health service. Currently it is undergoing extensive upgrading and refurbishing and will continue in its current use. As this work is still in progress, the final costs involved are not available.

The provision of community residences is in line with the recommendations of the report on the development of the psychiatric services, Planning for the Future, 1984, which has been accepted as mental health policy by successive Governments. It recommended a shift in psychiatric care from an institutional setting to a predominantly community-based setting.
