Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dunshaughlin (Meath) Garda Station.

Mary Wallace

Question:

99 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Justice the current position regarding the improvement works to be carried out at Dunshaughlin Garda station, County Meath; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the existing lease on the temporary Garda station expires in January 1997 and that there is an urgent need to clarify the position with regard to these improvements; the costs which have been allowed for in the 1996 budget; the time scale for carrying out this work; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5180/96]

The Office of Public Works is currently working on a sketch scheme and cost plan for the refurbishment of the existing station. While it is not possible to say at this time when work on the project will commence, it will be progressed as quickly as possible having regard to overall priorities and the availability of finance. I understand that the lease on the premises temporarily occupied by the Garda can be renewed or extended if need be.
