Vol. 462 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointments.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

98 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the appointment of a remedial teacher to serve three national schools (details supplied) in County Cork; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the other national schools in the area, which have large pupil numbers, have the services of a remedial teacher; and if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that the parents of pupils attending the three national schools are annoyed that their children do not have such a service. [5386/96]

Chris Flood

Question:

99 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application from Scoil Chaitlín Maude for the appointment of a remedial teacher on a full time basis; the date on which the application was made; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5396/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 and 99 together.

I am not in a position at present to make remedial teacher posts available to the schools referred to by the Deputies.

When I am in a position to extend the remediation service, the schools in question will be given every consideration.

My Department has received an application from Scoil Chaitlín Maude, for sanction to appoint a full-time remedial teacher at the school. The application was received in my Department on 4 March 1996.
