Vol. 462 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport Escorts.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

97 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will give approval for the appointment of an assistant/helper on school buses which are transporting children with mental and physical disabilities to special schools. [5385/96]

I recently allocated grants under the pilot scheme of grant-aid towards the provision of escorts on certain school transport services. Grants totalling £150,000 have been paid to the management authorities of 14 special schools to assist in defraying the cost of engaging suitable persons to act as escorts.
