Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff Work Practices.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

54 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Taoiseach if he or the Minister(s) of State at his Department have directed any of the staff employed in the Departmental constituency office to work directly in the local constituency clinic; if so, if this practice is in the public interest; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6486/96]

It is not the practice of my Department to direct Civil Service staff employed in departmental constituency offices to work in local constituency clinics. However, in line with established practice, staff employed on a contractual basis may be based full-time in local constituency offices or may attend local clinics or meetings related to constituency matters in the course of their duties.

There is no change in these arrangements from previous practice in this area.
