Vol. 463 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teachers' Welfare Service.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

31 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Education when she expects to have a teachers' welfare service in place; the form this service will take; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6690/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 32 on 20 February 1996 in which I confirmed my agreement to the establishment of a two year pilot employee assistance scheme for primary and second level teachers involving the appointment of ten employee assistance officers.

A number of issues of detail remain to be finalised in ongoing discussions with the interested parties. I am confident that, with the co-operation of all parties, these can be dealt with quickly and the pilot scheme put in place this year.
