Written Answers. - Breaches of Recognisances.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

30 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases in which a judge in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court certified that a breach of recognisances had taken place when issuing a bench warrant in 1995. [7055/96]

In 1995 there were 180 cases in which a judge in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, when issuing a bench warrant, certified that breach of recognisance had taken place. A recognisance is defined as an obligation or bond made before a court binding a person to perform some act e.g. to appear before a court or to keep the peace or to be of good behaviour.
