Vol. 463 No. 7

Written Answers. - Royal Canal (Dublin) Clean Up.

Tony Gregory

Question:

59 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will have arrangements made for the cleaning of the Royal Canal between Binn's Bridge and Mountjoy Prison, Dublin. [7294/96]

I am satisfied that the stretch of the Royal Canal between Binn's Bridge and Mountjoy Prison is being adequately maintained by the waterways service and it is not necessary to have a special clean up of this stretch of the canal at present.

Tenders have recently been invited by the waterways service for grass cutting and litter collection on Royal Canal property in the Dublin area. Previously this work was carried out by waterways service staff but due to pressure of other work it will in future be done on contract.
