Vol. 463 No. 7

Written Answers. - Festival Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

60 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the total sum of money provided by Ireland for I'Imaginaire Irlandais; the location of each performance; the names of the writers and other artists performing; and the fees paid to each. [7295/96]

The total amount of money provided in my Department for "L' Imaginaire Irlandais" over the period 1994 to 1996 is £1.5 million.

I am arranging to send the Deputy for her information a copy of the most up to date programme for the festival.

Responsibility for payment of fees to participating artists depends on the arrangements applying in relation to participating French venues. Fees are being paid in a number of ways — directly by the appropriate French venue, jointly by the French venue and "L' Imaginaire Irlandais" and in other cases by "L' Imaginaire Irlandais". In these circumstances the Deputy will appreciate that it is not practicable to give the detailed information requested.
