Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Palmerstown (Dublin) School Facilities.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

108 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the reason Palmerstown community school, Dublin 20, has been waiting 14 years for an indoor sports facility; and the plans, if any, she has to grant these facilities in 1996. [7325/96]

It is the policy of my Department to provide PE halls at all schools which do not already have these facilities. However, because of limited capital resources, this will have to be done on a phased basis over several years. The question of providing a PE hall at Palmerstown community school can only be considered in the context of the capital available for post-primary building purposes generally. Because of the huge demand for additional classroom accomodation in schools throughout the country, I am not in a position at this stage to say when a PE hall will be provided in this particular case. However, should financial circumstances permit, the school will be given every consideration.
